Smog is an example of the artist’s use of colour layering, which changes the density of the image depending on the shade, and transparency, which she enjoys using to tell a story by revealing what’s underneath.

This particular piece’s story had to be explained under pressure during an art class: aliens have come to earth with all the confidence they have mastered this atmosphere. However, when they reach the earth their spacecraft explodes because they’ve misjudged the effect of smog. The curious townspeople then go up to the ridge where the spacecraft crashed to investigate.

The artist sees this piece as one that revealed itself as she worked with the image.

Indy Barking at the Moon

This piece is the artist’s re-imagining of Joan Miro’s Dog Barking at the Moon.
